Bhutanese Trade Minister meets Shri P.M.Sayeed

A three-member Bhutanese delegation led by Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba, Bhutanese Minister for Trade and Industry called on Shri P.M.Sayeed, Minister for Power here today. Shri Sayeed said that India had done two projects in Bhutan earlier: Chukha (336 MW) and Kurichhu (60 MW). He said 1020 MW Tala project is in the final stages and is likely to be commissioned in June, 2006. He said the tariff for this project will be finalized soon. An umbrella agreement to establish a broad framework is also likely to be concluded soon, he added. A team led by Power Secretary would shortly visit Bhutan for this purpose. Power Secretary, Shri R. V. Shahi and other senior officers were present at the meeting.

The Bhutanese Minister said that the two countries have had excellent relations and Bhutan has benefited tremendously from the goodwill India has shown towards them over the years. The talks took place in a cordial atmosphere.
