Awards of National Youth Parliament competition distributed for Kendriya Vidyalayas Kendriya Vidyalaya in Delhi gets first prize

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pitampura, New Delhi was awarded the first prize and Running Parliamentary Shield and Trophy in the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2004-05 for Kendriya Vidyalayas. The Vidyalayas and students who secured positions in the competitions were awarded shields, trophies and certificates. Trophies were also awarded to 5 Vidyalayas which stood first in their respective zones and 12 Vidyalayas which stood first in their respective regions. After distributing the prizes, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Rural Development, Smt. Suryakanta Patil said that the Youth Parliament scheme is unique one as it helps in acquainting the coming generations with the practical knowledge of parliamentary functioning and these competitions have been of high quality for which the teachers and other functionaries deserve all praise and commendation. She also said that the Youth Parliament scheme would prepare the younger generation/student community to shoulder responsibilities later as an ideal citizen of this nation.

Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs have been organizing Youth Parliament Competitions in the Schools under the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi and NDMC for the past 39 years. In 1978, Kendriya Vidyalayas situated in and around Delhi were included in the competition along with the Delhi schools. In 1988, a separate National Youth Parliament Scheme for Kendriya Vidyalayas was introduced as a part of the celebrations of 40 years of India’s Independence and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth centenary. In 1997-98, two more national competitions, one for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and other for Universities and Colleges were introduced as a part of the celebrations to commemorate 50 years of India’s Independence. 17th National Youth Parliament Competition for Kendriya Vidyalayas for the year 2004-05 was conducted for 90 schools, first at the regional level and then at the national level.
