The Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri. Arjun Singh , is leaving for Geneva tomorrow to attend the 47th session of the International Conference on Education of UNESCO from September 8- 11,2004. This is the first overseas visit of the Minister since he assumed charge of the Ministry.
He will be Chairing the Conference as the representative of the Asia Pacific Group of the member States of UNESCO. He is accompanied by a high level delegation led by Secretary, Department of Secondary &Higher Education. The delegation comprises officials from Departments of Elementary as well as Higher Education. The theme of the Conference is “Quality Education for All Young People: Challenges, Trends and Priorities”. The Conference will discuss the needs of the most critical age-group in any country, the children and youth. Shri. Singh will also hold meetings with DG,UNESCO and DG, World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and other Ministerial Heads of delegation.
On his way back home, the Minister would be visiting London,U.K. from September11-15, 2004 .While in London, he would be meeting the Education Secretary of the Government of U.K. to discuss matters of mutual interest. He would also be addressing the Young Men’s Christian Association.
