A meeting of the Consultative Committee attached to Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) was held in New Delhi today under the chairmanship of the HRD Minister Shri Arjun Singh. Issues related to admissions to private unaided educational institutions imparting professional education were discussed. Members cutting across party lines expressed concern over the commercialization of professional education in the country and stressed the need to address the issue of social justice and equity in the education sector. They suggested that a proper mechanization to regulate the unaided institutions should be devised so as to ensure transparency for the benefit of the students. They said that quality of education should not be compromised and merit should not be ignored at any cost. Members also suggested that fee structure in unaided institutions for the students belonging to weaker sections as well as meritorious students should be affordable.
