The Hutti Gold Mines Limited (HGML) has signed an MOU with University of Agricultural Science, Dharwar for carrying out research on the use of Gold Ore Tailings for agricultural purposes. The research has commenced in April, 2003 and the period of research is for three years.
HGML, Karnataka has nearly 80 lakh tonnes of tailing material after recovery of gold from gold bearing rock. As the recovery of gold from this tailing material is not considered economical, its alternative use is being explored.
This information was given by the Minister for Mines, Shri Ramesh Bais in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
