The Ministry of Steel does not monitor agreements between individual Indian and foreign steel companies. No agreement has been signed between India and China during the recent visit of the Chinese Prime Minister for cooperation between India and Chinese Governments in the iron and steel sector.
China’s demand for steel has increased significantly in the last couple of years. Steel companies in general are free to export steel material to China and other countries. However, the steel companies in the public sector have been advised to ensure that the domestic needs are fully met before taking up exports.
This information was given by the Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Steel, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
