Acts of Gallantry : Kirti Chakra Awardees

Amongst various awards for Army personnel, four Kirti Chakras have also been announced.

Kirti Chakra has been awarded to Major Shatrujeet Kotwal of 3 JAT and Major Suhash Chand Punia of 21 PARA (Special Forces). Kirti Chakra has been awarded posthumously to Major Kumandur Prabhakar Vinay of 53 Medium Regiment (Artillery) and Sepoy Suresh of 16 JAT.

Maj KP Vinay belonged to Rajendra Nagar Colony in Hyderabad. He had his education in Vasavi Public School and College, Hyderabad. He was an alumunus of National Defence Academy. He killed two terrorists in Baramulla District of J & K on 02 Oct 2007. He was then serving with 34 Rashtriya Rifles. He was a bachelor. He is survivied by his father Shri KR Prabhakar.

Sepoy Suresh of 16 JAT was martyred in an action with militants in Kupwara Dist of J & K on 06 Oct 2007. He killed three militants even after being injured in a fire fight with them.

Maj Shatrujeet Kotwal, while serving with 34 Rashtriya Rifles also killed three terrorists in a dare devil action in Budgam Dist ( J & K) on 18 Jun 2007. An alumnus of National Defence Academy, he was commissioned in 1999. He belongs to Udhampur ( J & K).

Maj Subhash Chand Punia has been awarded Kirti Chakra for his gallant action in Manipur. He led the assault against militants who were entrenched in a camp on 04 May 2007. He himself killed two militants and along with his buddy killed another and injured one more.
