Action plan on modernization of Railways

Indian Railways have embarked on a high priority Action Plan for modernization, development and expansion of physical infrastructure of rail network.

The Action Plan, under formulation, will seek to increase investments on modernization, track renewal and safety.

Modernization will encompass replacement of rolling stock, throughput enhancement measures, safety, track laying, maintenance, signalling system, Workshop and Production Units, better training facilities, computerization of freight and coaching train monitoring.

The proposed Action Plan is a sequel to the UPA Government’s Commitment in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) to enhance rail infrastructure, modernize the system and increase line capacity as a priority area.
