The Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, informed the Lok Sabha today, in a written reply to a question by Shri P. Mohan that providing ATM facilities to the customers of Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) is in a conceptual stage only and no details have yet been worked out. During the year 2004-05 the deposits made by public in POSB are to the tune of Rs. 1,24,064 crore. Dr. Ahmad further stated that efforts for strengthening and improving the POSBs are a continuous process being undertaken by the Government. At present POSB operations are being computerized in post offices, which is part of the ongoing process of computerization of post offices.
