Bird flu update

There are no further reports from the HSADL, Bhopal of any sample testing positive from any part of the country, including West Bengal. The last notification of positive result was made on 2nd February 2008.

No unusual mortality was reported in West Bengal on 11th February, 2008.

A total of 133 Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) were engaged (5 in culling, 36 in surveillance / mopping and 72 in disinfection and sanitization) in West Bengal, which completed culling of 13,166 birds, taking the cumulative figure of culling done so far to 37.96 lakh.

The latest figures of eggs and feed destroyed till 11.02.2008 are 14,89,628 and 80,033 kg respectively.

Mopping up operations in Assam, where culling has been completed, is continuing. There are three districts of Bihar involved in preventive culling. The culling work has been completed in the Purnia district of Bihar. It is progressing in the other two districts.
