The Review Committee for Narmada Control Authority held its 12th meeting here today to discuss some important issues in connection with construction of Sardar Sarovar Project in Narmada District, Gujarat on the River Narmada. The meeting was called by Union Water Resources Minister Shri Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, who is the Chairman of the Review Committee for Narmada Control Authority. The meeting was attended, among others, by Shri Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Babulal Gaur, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav, Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Shri Patang Rao Kadam, Minister for Industries & Rehabilitation, Govt. of Maharashtra, Shri Sanwar Lal Jat, Minister for Irrigation, Govt. of Rajasthan and Shri Anoop Mishra, Minister for Narmada and Water Resources, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh. Shri V.K.Duggal, Secretary, Water Resources, Govt. of India is the convener of the Review Committee.
The Review Committee discussed issues of sharing of cost of resettlement & rehabilitation of Sardar Sarovar Project, compensation for power loss due to running of Irrigation Bye Pass Tunnel (IBPT) of Sardar Sarovar Project and sharing of cost of catchment area treatment of the Sardar Sarovar Project.
Shri V.K.Duggal, Chairman, Narmada Control Authority also gave the update on the progress of discussions in the Narmada Control Authority about raising the existing dam height of 110.64 m to 121.92 m in the coming year to the Review Committee. Shri Dasmunsi announced that he will be visiting the Project and the Resettlement & Rehabilitation (R&R) sites before the end of the year, to ensure that the R&R process is being implemented satisfactorily.
