Question : CONSTRUCTION MODERNISATION OF COLD STORAGES IN N.E. STATES



(a) The number of cold storage taking up for construction expansion and modernisation by the National Horticulture Board in the state during 2001-2002;

(b) Whether North-East states have also been given priority in this regard; and

(c) if so, the present state of storage arrangement in each of the States of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Sikkim?

(a) The Department of Agriculture & Cooperation is implementing scheme entitled `Capital investment Subsidy Scheme for Construction/Expansion/Modernisation of Cold Storage and Storage for Horticulture Produce` through the National Horticulture Board, an autonomous body under the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation. Under the scheme, 40 projects have been sanctioned in the State during 1.4.2001 to 29.6.2001.

(b) The scheme itself envisages providing back-ended capital investment subsidy to the North-Eastern States @ 33.33% of the project cost upto a ceiling of Rs. 60 lakhs per project as against subsidy @ 25% of the project cost not exceeding Rs.50.00 lakhs per project for other states.


(c) The distribution of cold storages as on 31.12.2000 is as below:-
