Question : PASSPORT TO AN AIDE OF MAFIA DON



(a) whether the Regional Passport Office, Delhi, had issued a passport to an aide of Mafia Don as reported in the Hindustan Times dated June 26, 2002;

(b) if so, the facts of the matter reported therein;

(c) whether any enquiry has been conducted in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) the outcome thereof; and

(f) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Yes.
(b) O.P. Singh had applied for passport to Regional Passport Office Delhi on November 7, 2001. A passport was issued to him on December 3, 2001.
(c) - (f) An inquiry within the department has been conducted which has revealed that while police records indicate that `not residing` report was sent in respect of Shri Singh the computer entry in the Passport Office showed a clear police report. The inquiry concluded that a deliberate act of feeding false entry in the computer had been made in the Passport office. The case is being investigated by the Crime Branch, Delhi Police.
