Question : SECURITY UPGRADATION AT SENSITIVE RAILWAY STATIONS

to the reply given to Unstarred Question No.3510 on April 26, 2007 and state:

(a) the details of 185 railway stations identified as security sensitive, State-wise;

(b) whether the security upgradation at all these railway stations has been completed;

(c) if so, the details of security upgradation done at these stations, particularly those in Andhra Pradesh;

(d) whether any decision has been taken on the proposal to allow entry of only the bonafide passengers to the railway platforms;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) if not, the reasons therefor?

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (SHRI R.VELU)

(a) State-wise list of 185 railway stations identified as security sensitive is enclosed as per Annexure.

(b) Yes, Sir. It is in the process

(c) Following steps have been taken to upgrade the security at sensitive stations. These steps are also applicable for sensitive stations in Andhra Pradesh:-

1. Unauthorized entry / exit points are being reviewed for closure.
2. Close Circuit Television and Cameras have been installed at important railway stations and trained staffs are put to monitor suspicious movements or persons on the platforms and other station areas.
3. At main entry points to the platforms, Door Frame Metal Detectors have been installed.
4. Public address system is being used at all important railway stations cautioning the passengers about precautions to be taken.
5. Strength of Dog Squad is being augmented.
6. Constant drives are being conducted against unauthorized passengers/ undesirable elements in trains and railway premises.
7. Railway Protection Force personnel have been briefed thoroughly for keeping effective vigil on the suspects boarding and alighting the trains at the stations.

In addition to these measures modern security gadgets are being procured. Efforts are also being made to fill-up the vacancies in RPF and further augment the strength.

(d) to (f) All passengers holding valid tickets for journey and platform ticket holders are allowed to enter the platforms. Regular checks are conducted in association with police to check the entry of unauthorized persons on platforms.
