Question : Installed Capacity of Solar based Power Generation

(a) the total installed capacity of solar based power generation in the country, State-wise;

(b) the quantum of solar energy generated during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government provides any incentives to firms producing or using solar power;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to manufacture equipment for generation of electricity and to derive maximum benefit from renewable energy and to promote renewable/solar energy in the country?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR POWER, COAL, NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND MINES (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) (SHRI PIYUSH GOYAL)

(a): State-wise details of total grid connected solar power generation capacity are given at Annexure-I.

(b): As per the report received from Central Electricity Authority, State-wise details of solar power generated during each of the last three years and current year are given at Annexure-II.

(c) & (d): The Government is promoting solar energy through various fiscal and promotional incentives such as capital subsidy, generation based incentive, accelerated depreciation, viability gap funding (VGF), financing solar rooftop systems as part of home loan, concessional custom duty, preferential tariff for power generation from renewables, and Foreign Direct investment up to 100 per cent under the automatic route etc. The Goods and Services Tax introduced recently, has been kept at lower level of 5% to promote the solar sector.

(e): The Government has been supporting solar manufacturing by way of various mechanisms such as Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS) of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY). The scheme, inter alia, provides 20-25% subsidy on capital expenditure for setting up of electronic manufacturing facilities including manufacturing of Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) (Polysilicon, Ingots. and/ or Wafers, Cells, Modules/Panels). Units across the value chain starting from raw materials to assembly, testing, and packaging of these product categories are included.
