(a) whether any machinery exists to monitor the activities of the Non-Governmental
Organizations (NGOs) in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has received complaints to the effect that after receiving
grants from the Government some NGOs wind up their educational and social activities and
misappropriate the funds; and
(d) if so, the steps taken to check the activities of NGOs?

(a) and (b) : The Ministry monitors the performance of NGOs working for its target
groups, to whom grant in aid is provided under various schemes, mainly through:-
(i) Inspection by officers of the concerned State Governments;
(ii) National Institutes of the Ministry; and
(iii) Officers of the Ministry when they undertake tours.
(c) No such complaint has been received in respect of NGOs receiving assistance from
this Ministry during the current year.
(d) Does not arise.
