Question : WATER PUMPED OUT BY BCCL FROM THE MINES



(a) the total quantity of water pumped out by BCCL from the mines on an average per day;

(b) the total quantity of water utilized in the colliery and the same drained out;

(c) whether the Government are aware of a representation submitted before the BCCL management in Dhanbad by the villagers around Kuja colliery of area to divert surplus pit water now drained to the drought hit field; and

(d) if so, the steps taken in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COAL & MINES AND MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF LAW & JUSTICE SHRI RAVI SHANKAR PRASAD

(a): The total quantity of water pumped out by BCCL from the mines on an average is around 52.7 million gallons per day.

(b): Approximately 40% of the water pumped out from the mines is utilised for domestic consumption after treatment and around 60% of the same is presently being drained out.

(c): There is no colliery named “Kuja Colliery” in BCCL. However, there is Kujama colliery in Bastacolla area of BCCL. No such application from the villagers around Kujama colliery has been received so far by the area to provide surplus pit water.

(d): Does not arise in view of reply given to part (c) of the above question.
