Question : SYNTHETIC MILK



(a) whether the Union Government are aware that the trade of Synthetic milk is flourishing in the Capital and in the adjoining States;

(b) if so, whether DMS and Mother Dairy have also been mixing Synthetic milk in their products;

(c) if so, the facts thereof; and

(d) the corrective steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Union Government in this regard?

(a) As per the information received from States Union Territories some samples of milk were found to contain the adulterants like Urea, Glucose, etc. in Uttar Pradesh.

(b) No, Sir.

(c) Does not arise.

(d) Sale of milk and milk products containing substances not found in milk, except as prescribed in the PFA Rules, is already prohibited under the provisions of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954. All the State Governments have been requested to take necessary action to keep a strict vigil on the quality of milk.
