Question : Construction of Houses under PMAY


(a) the number of housing units constructed since the last three years under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), State-wise;

(b) whether a large number of such units were not allotted to the deserving homeless people of the country and if so, the reason therefor; and

(c) the details of the proposed target of construction of homes for the poor people of the country for the next five years, State-wise?

(a): A total of 34,90,733 houses have been constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) in the last three years. State/ Union Territory (UT)-wise details are at Annexure.

(b)& (c): No, Sir. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has been implementing PMAY-U since 25.06.2015 for providing assistance to States/ Union Territories (UTs) for addressing the housing requirement of the people belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories in urban areas. States/UTs have undertaken demand survey under the scheme for assessing actual demand of housing. The assessed demand reported by States/UTs is around 112 lakhs. Based on the project proposals received so far from the States/ UTs under the Scheme, a total 1,09,82,808 houses have been sanctioned; out of this, 41,78,578 have been completed/ delivered and remaining are at various stages of construction, which are targeted to be progressively completed within the Mission period.States/ UT – wise details are at Annexure.
The Mission period is upto March, 2022. State/ UTs have been requested to expedite the grounding and completion of houses approved under the scheme so as to achieve the vision of ‘Housing for All’ by 2022.
