Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR STEEL (SHRI VISHNU DEO SAI)

(a)&(b): The steel manufacturing companies / factories registered under the Factories Act, 1948 are governed by the provisions of the Act and the State factories rules framed thereunder and they are required to follow the rules of the provisions of the Safety which are enforced by the respective State / Union Territories. Environment standards for integrated steel plants are notified by the regulatory authorities in the Government. Steel manufacturing companies are required to comply with these standards. According to the available information, all these steel companies review the compliance of safety rules & environment norms with internal as well as external audit on regular basis. However, Iron & Steel Industry being de-licensed and deregulated, unit-wise compliance report is not available.

(c)&(d): No cases have been reported regarding irregularities in the compliance of environment protection measures by the steel manufacturing companies with nexus of officials.
