(a) whether the National Agricultural Insurance Scheme was started from Rabi
season of 1999-2000;
(b) if so, the number of beneficiaries under the scheme in each of the State, season-
wise;
(c) whether it is a fact that the farmers in some of the States were not involved with
the scheme neither in Rabi nor in Kharif season and the scheme could not reach to all
the States; and
(d) if so, the reasons therefor?

(b): State-wise and season-wise details of farmers benefited is annexed.
(c) & (d): Yes, Sir. All the farmers have not participated in the scheme, as only 18
States and 2 Union Territories have opted in favour of NAIS so far, because of voluntary
nature of the scheme.
