Question : Drone Attack by Terrorists


(a) whether the Government is aware of terrorists using drones for attacking State establishments as well as the people in some countries;

(b) if so, whether some anti-India elements/terrorist organisations could use Drone type device to attack commercial/ Government establishment including threat of terror attack on Satish Davan Space Centre, (SHAR) and VVIPs as well as prominent personalities in the country;

(c) whether the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) is preparing strategies and operating procedures to lay down a road map for
acquisition of anti-drone technologies;

(d) if so, the reaction of the Government and the steps proposed to be taken to counter and foil such attacks in the country; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to regulate the selling and subsequent use of drones in the country?

(a) to (e): A few instances have come to notice of use of drones to target government establishments and public in other countries. In order to counter the threat of drones in the country, necessary measures by the Central and State Governments are being taken in consultation with the security agencies. Directorate General of Civil Aviation notified the Civil Aviation Requirements for Operation of Civil Remotely Piloted Aircraft System on 27.08.2018.
