Question : Construction of Medical Colleges in Odisha

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the details of estimated cost of 5 medical colleges which are under construction in Odisha along with the central share on these colleges;

(b) the present status with regard to construction of these colleges;

(c) the details of fund released by the centre from its share;

(d) whether there is delay in release of fund, if so, the reasons therefor; and

(e) the corrective measures taken by the Government in this regard?

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND
FAMILY WELFARE

(a): The approved cost of 5 medical colleges to be established in Odisha under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of ‘Establishment of New Medical Colleges attached with District/Referral hospitals’ is Rs.189 crore for each college. This cost is to be shared in the ratio of 60:40 between Centre and State.

(b): The Govt. of Odisha has intimated that construction works in these colleges is in progress.

(c) to (e): A total of Rs.170 crore has been released to Govt. of Odisha towards Central Share till date i.e. Rs.34 crore for each college. Further, Ministry of Finance has been requested for providing additional funds under the Scheme.
