Question : OUTSTANDING DUES FOR USE OF DEFENCE AIRCRAFTS



(a) whether huge amounts are outstanding against the former Cabinet Ministers including former Prime Ministers for use of defence aircrafts for unofficial journeys;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government for recovery of outstanding dues from them?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI A.K. ANTONY)

(a) & (b): The outstanding amount due against the former Cabinet Minister including former Prime Ministers for use of defence aircraft for unofficial journeys are as follows:-

(i) Rs.4,60,336/- from Shri V.C. Shukla for the journey on 15.4.1994.

(ii) Rs.5,91,31,476/- from Late Shri Chandrashekhar for the journeys during the period January 1991 to June 1991.

(iii) Rs.54,61,497/- from Shri H.D. Deve Gowda for the journeys during the period September 1996 to March 1997.

(c) Necessary steps have been undertaken by the Government to recover the dues by way of sending notices or initiating appropriate recovery process.
