Question : Implementation of Domestic Violence Act

(a) whether the Government has taken steps to implement the provisions of ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005’ and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the number of cases received and disposed of under the Act during the last three years and the current year;
(c) whether the Government has defined a clear policy on social participation and operational methods in facilitating community health projects for women welfare; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) : The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 (PWDVA) which came into effect in October 2006 aims to provide protection and support to victims of domestic violence. All the State Governments/UT Administrations are responsible for implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), 2005. However, the Government of India emphasised upon the need to impart training to First Class Judicial Magistrates/Metropolitan Magistrates to deal with cases under Domestic violence Act through National/State Judicial Academies. Continuous awareness creation among men and women in the society through workshops, seminars, street plays, Nari Ki Chaupals, Beti Janmotshav are undertaken at the district level. Further, advertisements in the press and electronic media educating peoples about issues of domestic violence are also being published. Through Sabla programme of this Ministry, adolescent girls in the age group of 11 to 18 years are imparted training with regard to legal rights of women.
As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total Number of 426 cases in 2014, 461 cases in 2015 and 437 cases in 2016 were registered under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PDWVA), 2005.
