MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS ( SHRI DIGVIJAY SINGH)
(a) to (d): Statement is laid on the Table of the House.
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION
No.3994 BY SHRI BRAJ MOHAN RAM TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 14.12.2000
REGARDING DOUBLING OF RAIL LINES.
(a) Doubling of single line sections is taken up when their carrying
capacity is saturated, with freight intensive sections being given
priority. As far as electrification of a rail route is concerned,
normally only such electrification projects (except a few on operational
considerations) that give a financial rate of return of 14%, are considered.
(b) Birla Aluminium Factory is located at Renukut on Garwa Road-Chopan
sectin. No other cement/thermal power plants are located on this route.
(c) A major portion of total raw materials and other products meant for
Birla Aluminium Factory are being transported by this route. A part of
their outward product is also being transported through this route.
(d) The traffic on Garwa Road-Chopan sectin has not yet reached the
level to justify its doubling. Doubling of the section will be considered
once the traffic warrants the same, subject to availability of
resources. There is at present no proposal to electrify the section due
to constraint of resources and relative priorities for electrification of
other high density routes.
