(a) & (b): At present there is no proposal to upgrade Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-National Research Centre on Camel (NRCC), Bikaner.
(c) & (d): Yes, Sir. The ICAR-NRCC, Bikaner has conducted basic and applied research work both on one humped and double humped camel as follows:
1. Single humped (Camelus dromedrius) camel
i. ICAR-NRC on camel has characterized six camel breeds namely, Jaisalmeri, Mewari, Marwari, Jalori and Sindhi;
ii. Package of practices to improve reproductive efficiency; reduce early calf mortality, and early post parturient breeding;
iii. Complete feed block and pelleted calf ration were developed for balanced feeding to camel reared under intensive system of management;
iv. Thornless cactus as alternated feed for camel;
v. Area specific mineral mixture: for arid zone of the country;
vi. Herbal formulation for treatment of mange in camel;
vii. Need based herbal formulation for treatment of mange;
viii. Herbo-Mineral mixture for treatment of pica in camel;
ix. Developed and standardized technologies for production of 30 different camel milk based products for higher economic return, e.g. Fermented camel milk, camel milk culfi, camel milk ice-cream, camel milk cheese (cheddar type), flavoured camel milk, camel milk ice-cream etc;
x. Therapeutic effect of camel milk in Type-I Diabetes in human;
xi. Therapeutic effect of camel milk in autism in children.
2. Double humped (Camelus bactrianus) camel
i. Hemato-biochemical parameters and wool fibers were characterized;
ii. Draught power capacity indicated that camel can carry load up to 1 quintal as baggage and can work for 6-8 hours daily, for a period of 20-30 days during winter months.
