(a) to (b) The Hon’ble National Green Tribunal vide its order dated 15th December, 2018 disposed of the Appeal No. 87 of 2018 with a direction to Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) to pass fresh order of renewal of consent and authorization for the Copper Smelter unit of M/s. Vedanta Limited at Tuticorin in accordance with the law within three weeks from 15th December, 2018. Meanwhile, the Madurai bench of the Hon’ble High Court of Madras vide its order dated 21st December, 2018 in Writ Petition No. 25495 of 2018 directed the respondents inter-alia including TNPCB to maintain status quo in the matter.
(c) to (d) It has beenreported that Government of Tamil Nadu has paid Rupees twenty lakhs as compensation to the families of those killed in the Tuticorin police firing and given government job to one of the family members.
