Question : DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL HYDROGEN ENERGY ROADMAP



(a) whether the Government have decided to set up a National Hydrogen Energy Board for developing a National Hydrogen Energy Roadmap;

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith its composition and the purpose for setting up the Board;

(c) whether the Government have taken into confidence the State Governments also while determining the jurisdiction of this board;

(d) the time by which and the manner in which the said board is likely to start functioning; and

(e) the extent to which Hydrogen is likely to be utilised in various fields particularly in vehicles?

(a), (b), (c) & (d): The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources have decided to set up a National Hydrogen Energy Board. The objective of this Board includes preparation and guiding the implementation of a National Hydrogen Energy Roadmap and proposing policy and other related measures for the accelerated development and promotion of Hydrogen energy in the country. The Board would consist of representatives from Government, industry, academia, research institutions and other concerned stakeholders, including State representatives. The Board is in the initial stages of its formation.

(e): Hydrogen energy is currently at the research, development and demonstration stage. Hydrogen energy utilization has been demonstrated in the country in vehicles, power generating units, fuel cells, among others. The extent to which Hydrogen is likely to be utilized would depend on various factors, including availability of Hydrogen, cost, infrastructure, etc.
