(a) & (b) Government of India protects and maintains monuments/sites of national importance in the country. There are 3,693 protected monuments and sites administered by Archaeological Survey of India. Their conservation, preservation and annual maintenance is taken up as regular phenomenon. In order to protect and provide security, regular employees, CISF, private security guards, etc. are posted at various monuments.
States Governments and Local bodies also protect various monuments and sites under their respective Acts.
