Question : SEA WAV BETWEEN MANGALORE AND MUMBAI



(a) whether the Government is aware that the traffic between Mangatore and Mumbai is increasing every day;

(b) whether it is also true that both train and road transport are unabfe to meet the traffic demands;

(c) if so, whether the Centre proposes or has any proposal to introduce a Sea-way between Manga lore-Mumbai to ease the traffic of the said route;

(d) if so, whether the Government has conducted any study in this regard; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) No, Madam.

(b) The Ministry of Shipping has not come across any such issue of rail and road transport being unable to meet the demand in cargo-traffic between Mangaiore and Mumbai.

(c) Coastal shipping vessels are already operating between Mangalore and Mumbai ports.

(d)&(e)The Government has not conducted any study to introduce a sea-way between Mangalore-Mumbai as there was no necessity for the same.
