Question : REHABILITATION OF AYURVEDA HOSPITALS



(a) whether Ayurveda Hospitals in the country, are reeling under administrative problems leading them to gradual extinction;

(b) if so, whether any study has been conducted on their working and conditions;

(c) if so, the outcomes thereof; and

(d) the measures taken/being taken by the Government to protect these Hospitals?

(a) to (d) Setting up of Ayurvedic Hospitals including their upkeep and maintenance is the responsibility of State Governments. The State Governments have been advised to provide medicines according to an Essential Drug List of Ayurvedic Medicines. The States have also been advised to see that the enormous infrastructure of hospitals and dispensaries is used effectively by filling the critical gaps.

A facility survey for the country has not been undertaken but a survey on `Usage and acceptability of ISM&H` has been given to Indian Council of Medical Research and its outcome is awaited.
