Question : CONCRETE ROADS



(a) whether it is a fact that the National Highways laid in concrete results in 15% savings in fuel bills in comparison to bitumen roads;

(b) if so, facts thereof;

(c) whether the Government propose to construct all National Highways in concrete in the country; and

(d) if not, reasons therefor?

(a)&(b) No study has been conducted for savings in fuel on concrete roads in comparison to bitumen roads.

(c) & (d) Both bitumen and concrete type of pavements are being considered for development of National Highways. Option of pavement type depends on a number of factors including type of subsoil, climatic conditions, traffic and relative costs.
