(a) & (b): According to information provided by various Companies, CNG stations have been opened
in the following cities in the country:-
Maharashtra Mumbai, Thane & Mira-Bhayandar
NCR of Delhi Delhi
Andhra Pradesh Vijayawada and Hyderabad
Uttar Pradesh Noida, Kanpur, Lucknow & Agra
Tripura Agartala
Gujarat Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Surat, Vadodara, Gandhinagar & Hazira
The demand of natural gas in the country is more than the availability. However, as the number of CNG vehicles is on the rise, CNG stations are being augmented to cater to the requirement of CNG fuel in all the cities, where CNG stations have been set up.
(c) to (e): Government has received requests from certain State Governments from time to time to extend CNG network in the states. As mentioned in reply to part (a), CNG outlets have been opened in many cities. GAIL (India) Limited has formed 8 Joint Venture Companies with Oil Marketing Companies and strategic partners for implementing city gas distribution networks.
The Government of India has established the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) with effect from 01.10.2007 under âthe Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act, 2006â to regulate the refining, processing, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing and sale of petroleum, petroleum products and natural gas excluding production of crude oil and natural gas. The PNGRB shall, inter alia, take up the registration and authorization of entities to lay, build, operate and expand city/local natural gas distribution networks, in accordance with the provisions of the PNGRB Act, 2006.
