Question : Construction of Buildings around Airports

(a) whether any norms have been laid down for construction of private buildings in the areas adjoining airports and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the height and the distance of the buildings constructed/under-construction in areas adjoining Mumbai airport conform to these norms;

(c) if so the details thereof and if not, the details of such constructed/under-construction private buildings which do not conform to the fixed norms;

(d) whether the Maitri Park Cooperative Housing Society in Chembur, Mumbai is also included in the list of such buildings; and

(e) if so, the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Government against the persons responsible for constructing buildings without complying with the norms and without obtaining the requisite NOC?

(a): Yes, Madam. Construction of buildings/structures in the vicinity of airports of the country are regulated by the provisions of S.O.84(E)
notified on 14th January, 2010.

(b) & (c): Yes, Madam. The height and the distance of the buildings constructed/under construction in adjoining Mumbai airport conform to
the norms except few buildings. The details of violations are at Annexure I.

(d): No, Madam.

(e): Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) has initiated action as per the provisions of the Aircraft (Demolition of Obstruction caused by Buildings and Trees etc.) Rules, 1994.
