(b) if so, the details thereof?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES, MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES AND PENSIONS, MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PLANNING AND MINISTER OF STATE IN THE DEPARTMENTS OF ATOMIC ENERGY AND SPACE (SHRIMATI VASUNDHARA RAJE)

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) The Department undertakes survey of components/equipment in nuclear power stations for assessment of health and for condition monitoring. The renovation and modernisation of the plant is decided based on the foregoing. At the end of the specified number of Effective Full Power Years (EFPY) of operation, the plant upgradation involving replacement of Coolant Channels and other safety systems of the plant, installation of supplementary control room and modification of certain other systems, as may be applicable, to enhance the safety are proposed to be implemented. The plant upgradation is required for its compliance to the requirements of safety, as a life extension measure, thus ensuring continuation of the generating capacity. This upgradation programme is implemented progressively as a function of time and need.
