Shri Salman Khurshid to Assess The Ganga Flood Control Measures in Uttar Pradesh

Shri Salman Khurshid, Minister of Water Resources, is embarking upon a two-day tour of Gangatic banks in western Uttar Pradesh from tomorrow to assess the status of flood control measures and other aspects related to the hydrology of the river in that part. Many of these gangatic areas were badly affected by flooding last year. The Minister will be accompanied by senior officers of the Ministry of Water Resources, including Shri A. K. Ganju, Chairman, Ganga Flood Control Commission and Shri Devendra Sharma, Commissioner (Ganga).

Shri Khurshid will start the assessment from Garh Mukteshwar in district Ghaziabad where he will also visit the Hydrological Observation Site and the embankment protection works. He will also visit Anupshahar in district Bulandshahar to analyze and assess the steps needed to check land erosion and strengthen the embankments there. The Minister of Water Resources will also get information on the flow and quality of water of the river in these areas. This stretch of Ganga river gets the central funds for various water works under the UP-14 Scheme for which Rs. 32.41 crore have been allocated.
