Shri Ram Naik approves gas allocation to city gas projects in seven more cities

Shri Ram Naik, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas has approved the recommendations of Gas Linkage Committee (GLC) to allot 1.7 million metric standard cubic metre gas per day (MMSCMD) for implementation of City Gas Distribution Projects in six more environmentally sensitive cities/towns of the country. The gas allocation to various City Gas Distribution Projects comprise Kanpur (0.1 MMSCMD), Pune (0.4 MMSCMD), Faridabad, Noida and Gurgaon (0.7 MMSCMD), and Thane & Navi Mumbai (0.5 MMSCMD).

This decision will help supply of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to transport sector on priority as indicated by Hon’ble Supreme Court and also Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to households, commercial and industrial units in and around the cities which is expected to lead to significant improvement in the ambient air quality of these cities.

GAIL has taken up City Gas Distribution Projects in Kanpur and Pune in joint venture with other oil companies, whereas, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has proposed for extending their network to the adjoining areas of Delhi i.e. Faridabad, Noida and Gurgaon. Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) have also proposed for extending their network to the suburban areas of Mumbai i.e. Thane, Navi Mumbai.

Shri Ram Naik also approved the recommendations of GLC to revalidate allocation of 0.1 MMSCMD gas to the joint venture of GAIL, HPCL and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation for implementation of City Gas Distribution Projects in Andhra Pradesh.
