Railway earnings show an increase of 19.05 per cent during 1st to 10th February 2006

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis for the ten-day period ending 10th February 2006 were 1574.15 crores compared to Rs. 1322.29 crores during the same period last year registering an increase of 19.05 per cent. The total earnings were 2.24 per cent more than the Budget target of Rs. 1539.63 crores for the same period.

The total goods earnings of Rs.1105.43 crores have shown an increase of 22.99 per cent during this period. This is against Rs. 898.83 crores earned during the corresponding period last year. The total goods earning were 11.84 per cent more than the Budget target of Rs. 988.43 cores for the same period.

The total passenger revenue earnings on originating basis during 1st to 10th February 2006 were Rs.419.13 crores marking an increase of 8.16 per cent against Rs. 387.50 crores earned during the same period last year. The total passenger earnings were 1.52% less then the Budget target of Rs. 425.58 crores for the same period.

There is also an increase of 50.16 per cent in revenue earnings from other coaching during this period with earnings of Rs. 38.59 crores compared to Rs. 25.70 crores during the same period last year, which is 10.92 per cent more than the Budget target of Rs. 34.79 crores for the same period.

The total number of passengers booked during this period were 163.86 million compared to 159.94 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 2.45 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the total number of passengers booked during this period were 94.11 million and 69.75 million compared to 95.63 million and 64.31 million showing a decrease of 1.59 per cent and an increase of 8.46 per cent in the two sectors respectively.
