Freeing elephants to wild

The Central Government has not decided to free all elephants to wild for their safety and free movement. The government has taken a decision to rehabilitate captive elephant only from Zoos to elephant camps/rehabilitation camps / other facilities available with the Forest Departments at National Parks/Wildlife Sanctuaries/Tiger Reserves for departmental use.

This information was given by the Shri Namo Narain Meena, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and currently looking after Ministry of Environment and Forests in a return reply to question by Shri Rama Chandra Khuntia in the Rajya Sabha today.
