The Ministry of Women and Child Development provides financial assistance for the construction of hostel buildings for women direct to applicant organization on the receipt of viable proposals recommended by the State Governments. The Government also sanctions financial assistance for short stay homes to cater to the homeless women.
This was stated by the Minister of State for Women and Child Development Ministry, Smt. Renuka Chowdhury in a reply to a questions by S/Shri Hiten Barman, Dalpat Singh Parste, Bapu Hari Chaure and Shri E. Dayakar Rao in Lok Sabha.
The Minister also informed that the National Commission for Women (NCW) has proposed a draft legislation titled ‘Prevention of Offences (by Acid) Act, 2008’ which provides for punishment for persons found guilty of throwing acids on girls and women. The NCW has been holding wider consultations to finalise the draft.
